How to Make This Year Your Best Year
Jan 02, 2019It’s 2019. Become a better you, for you. Don’t make resolutions that are too difficult to keep. Fitness resolutions seem to happen every year, whether that’s getting a six-pack or losing ten pounds. The best thing you could do for yourself is resolve to be a better you.
Below are three ways to become a better you for you.
1. Learn to say no.
In so much of our lives today we have people constantly trying to get us to do something. It doesn’t have to be big things that people try to get us to do, but what you should be asking yourself is: do I really want to be doing this?
It’s OK to tell people no. No, I don’t want to go out tonight, I just want to sit in my pajamas and watch the office. Perhaps, no, I don’t want to take that project right now, I don’t want to over-commit and not leave time for the fun things I want to do in life. Or maybe, no, I don’t want to see that movie. Because there’s a movie that I really want to see.
We so often say yes, because we don’t want to put that person who is requesting something or suggesting something from feeling any negative thoughts. So much so, that we neglect our own feelings or desires at the cost of what we believe is a better friendship, partnership, marriage.
Learn to say no. It’s a skill. It takes practice. The more you do it, the better you will get, and the better you will feel about life.
2. Learn to meditate
Meditation doesn’t have to be you sitting in lotus position, body contorted, while chanting your mantra. If I did that my legs would fall asleep and all I would be meditating on was the pins-and-needle feeling pulsating through both feet.
You can meditate in several ways. Maybe meditating for you is mindful meditation. Being in the moment. Whether it’s a stressful situation where you are simply observing the situation for what it is, but not necessarily passing your feelings through situation.
Maybe it’s more of a body awareness meditation. Where you are checking in with your body to find any tenseness and working to relax those muscles.
Perhaps it’s even focusing on prayer and the truths provided by your creator.
Meditation is known to reduce stress, control anxiety, and promote emotional health.
3. Foster relationships
Really work on your relationships. Friends, spouse, children. Follow through on meeting with them and checking in. Enrich, engage, and encourage those who are closest to you.
Make new friends. Try to meet new people. It’s amazing what the power of human connection can do for ones own good. When you are able to pour into other people, your soul begins to come alive. We were meant to be connected.
These are just three simple ways to help become a better you. The main focus should be on you and how you can make changes that will impact your life and emotional health.
Make 2019 your best year yet!
